Children need clean drinking water, access to sanitation and quality healthcare, in order to grow and flourish. We help children get off to a healthy start in life by supporting programmes that address these needs. We’re also funding efforts to enable pregnant women and mothers to improve their own health. In this way, we can help them give their children the best start in life.

Clean water and sanitation

We fund programmes to help families get access to safe water and sanitation—life’s most basic necessities. These include Water.org’s innovative WaterCredit programme in India and Indonesia. This is helping one million people, including hundreds of thousands of children, get safe water and sanitation by giving their families access to small loans.

Better care for mothers and children

Our partners run health programmes for pregnant women and new mothers, and make sure their babies get vaccines, healthcare and nutrition. We also fund programmes that help families get basic treatments for common illnesses.

For example, diarrhoea is an easily treatable illness that kills more than 700,000 children every year. Zinc and oral rehydration salts are a simple and affordable solution. We work with our partners to help families living in poverty get access to this life-saving treatment.

Emergency medical care

In times of emergency we support humanitarian organisations, such as medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). We give funding to provide medical care, relief items, safe drinking water and sanitation systems that will help families stay healthy in the aftermath of a disaster.
