About us

Ingvar Kamprad, our founder, says: “We all share basic needs: a secure home, good health, a regular income, a desire to keep our children safe, to see them get a good education and succeed in life. That’s why the IKEA Foundation has decided to focus our funding on these key necessities.”

We have a team of co-workers who work closely with partners to develop, manage and communicate our programmes. Our co-workers are based in our offices in the Netherlands and India.
Our mission is to create substantial and lasting change by funding holistic, long-term programmes in some of the world’s poorest communities that address children’s fundamental needs: home, health, education and a sustainable family income, while helping communities fight and cope with climate change.
All children should have a safe place to call home, a healthy start in life, a quality education and a sustainable family income. We fund programmes that address these needs, creating circles of prosperity for children living in poverty. In this way, we can help children build better futures, for themselves and their families.
“Today, our goal with the IKEA Foundation is in keeping with exactly what we’ve always tried to do as a home furnishings company – create a better everyday life for as many people as possible around the world."
We get the best results by working with partners who know the most about the areas we want to support. We support programmes managed by established and well-regarded organisations that are experts in their fields. We support programmes that address the full circle of fundamental needs that can help people break the cycle of poverty and ultimately take control of their own futures.
IKEA is a home furnishings company founded in Sweden, in 1943, by Ingvar Kamprad. IKEA believes that home is the most important place in the world and children its most important people. We are the philanthropic arm of INGKA Foundation, the owner of the IKEA Group of companies.
