Reaching an estimated 80 million children by 2015 with our currently funded programmes

Children across the developing world die every year of malnutrition because it’s too hard to get medical care, or simply for lack of running water and basic sanitation. The UN Millennium Development Goals show that pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and AIDS accounted for almost half of all deaths of children under five-years old worldwide in 2008. Over a third of all child deaths were attributable to undernutrition alone in 2008.

A healthy start is fundamental for children’s development and opportunities in life. That is why we place such a strong emphasis on preventive care, nutrition, and sanitation initiatives.

IKEA Foundation funded health programmes focus on South Asia, and particularly India, where IKEA has been doing business for many years, and where the needs of children are great.
