Women on Wings' mission is to create employment for women in developing countries by advising companies in areas of management, marketing, communication and finance. As women become more economically independent, their children gain access to education and even further opportunities-giving entire families a better chance for the future by breaking the cycle of poverty. Women on Wings is dedicated to the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals which have galvanized unprecedented efforts around the world by nearly all nations and leading development institutions to address eight key needs of the world's poorest people, by the target date of 2015 |
The IKEA Foundation has brought UNDP, UNICEF and Women on Wings together in an effort to improve hygiene and access to feminine hygiene products in rural India where menstruation is a delicate issue; half of adolescent girls consider it a disease and don't know how to deal with it. This initiative will help girls stay in school while empowering women as entrepreneurs by making and marketing feminine hygiene products in their villages. The IKEA Foundation is first funding a planning phase, which began in May 2011.
