The Pediatric Research Foundation at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital finances research fellowships and programmes at the hospital. The hospital is part of Sweden’s Karolinska Institute & University Hospital, and the research supported by the Foundation is typically carried out within the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, focusing on neonatology, child endocrinology, allergy and asthma, and pediatrics. In addition, the collaborative research programme specifically addressing child diseases in India began in 2009. The work will be conducted as translational research, combining clinical and basic laboratory research. |
The aim of this five year research programme (2009-2013) within the fields of infectious diseases, immunology and newborn illnesses is to improve poor children’s prospects for survival and enjoying a healthy life.
A first two-year study, Etiology of Community Acquired Pneumonia in Children: A prospective, community and hospital based study (Pneumonia in Children), was launched in 2010 and involves 5,000 Indian children under five.
